At the age of 5 she heard a radio recording of Jacqueline Du Pre playing Elgar's Cello Concerto, and was inspired to pester her parents until they gave her a quarter size Cello. At the age of 13 she won a national music competition, which happened to be televised, and Jacqueline was watching and wrote a note of congratulations: Caroline was invited to tea with her inspiration, and followed her career as it blossomed.
